Important Measuring Tips

  • Exact measurements are critical for a perfect fit.
  • If measuring existing cushions, make sure they are original to the furniture set.
  • Measure seam to seam—do not include the puffiness beyond the seam.
  • There are no standard sizes for cushions—always measure carefully.
  • If measuring a furniture frame, measure the entire space where the cushions will be placed.
  • Custom cushions are made exactly to your provided dimensions and are non-returnable.
  • If you have questions during the measuring process, email or call our customer service team before ordering.

Measuring Chair Cushions or Frames

Watch our quick tutorial to get you started:

Measuring Original Chair Frames

Measure directly on the frame if you don’t have the original cushion:

  1. Width – Between the arms, across the seat. Note: Some seats are wider at the front than the back—measure both widths.
  2. Depth – From the front edge of the seat to the back of the seat.
  3. Back Height – From the back of the seat to the top of the frame. Consider the thickness of the seat cushion when finalizing the height of the back cushion.
  4. Thickness – Desired cushion thickness (top to bottom, uncompressed).

Measuring Original Chair Cushions (Seat & Back)

Additional care needs to be given when taking measurements of the original cushions due to shifting of fill over time. Use an even surface to lay each cushion flat before taking measurements. All measurements should be taken seam-to-seam.

  1. Seat Width – Across the front, right seam to left seam. Note: Some seats are wider at the front than the back—measure both widths.
  2. Seat Depth – From front seam to back seam.
  3. Seat Thickness – Uncompressed, top to bottom.
  4. Back Width – Across the widest part. Note: Some backs are wider at the top than at the bottom—measure both widths.
  5. Back Height – From bottom seam to top seam. Occasionally the fill inserts are compromised, so it may be necessary to remove the cover from the fill before taking measurements.

Measuring Chaise Cushions or Lounge Frames

Watch our quick tutorial to get you started:

Measuring Chaise Lounge Frames (Seat & Back)

Many chaise cushions have multiple sections which might affect the measurements taken on the frame. Optional hinges or connections will need to be considered.

  1. Width – Across the widest part of the seat. Measure back, middle, and front sections if widths differ.
  2. Seat Length – Front edge to seat bend or seat back.
  3. Back Height or Length (if positioned completely flat) – Seat bend to top of backrest.
  4. Thickness – Desired cushion thickness.

Measuring Chaise Cushions (Seat & Back)

  1. Seat Width – Across front seam. Measure each section if multiple seat cushions exist.
  2. Seat Length – Front seam to back seam. Repeat for each section.
  3. Seat Thickness – Uncompressed.
  4. Back Length – Seam at fold or break to top seam.
  5. Back Thickness – Uncompressed.

Measuring Sofa or Loveseat Frames

Measuring Loveseat Frames

  1. Overall Width – Inside arm to inside arm. Divide based on the number of cushions desired (e.g., 2 vs 3 cushions).
  2. Seat Depth – Front edge to backrest.
  3. Back Height – Seat back to top of frame. Consider cushion thickness when finalizing back cushions.
  4. Thickness – Desired cushion depth.

Measuring Sofa Cushions

Watch our quick tutorial to get you started:

  1. Seat Width of each cushion – Across front seam. Measure all cushions if seats differ.
  2. Seat Depth – Front seam to back seam.
  3. Seat Thickness – Uncompressed.
  4. Back Height – Bottom seam to top seam.
  5. Back Width of each cushion – Across widest part. Measure all cushions if backs differ.

How To Measure For Custom Outdoor Curtains

Measuring for Curtains – Step-by-Step Guide

Width

  1. Measure the width of your curtain rod (or the total width of the space you want to cover).
  2. Multiply this measurement by 1.5 to 2.0.
    • This ensures necessary fullness and coverage.
    • Example: If your rod is 60", multiply 60 × 1.5 = 90".
  3. If ordering multiple curtain panels, divide the total measurement from Step 2 by the number of panels you want.
    • Example: 90" ÷ 2 panels = each panel should be 45".

Note: Widths over 50" will require a seam. Our finish is with a quality French seam to hide all raw edges.

Length

  1. Measure from the top of your curtain rod (not the bracket) down to the floor or your desired finished length.
Tip: We recommend stopping ½” above the floor to reduce wear on the panel hem.
  2. Order the curtain length as measured in Step 1 for Tab-Top, Back Tab, or Rod Pocket styles.
  3. If measuring Grommet curtains, add 1 inch to this measurement from Step 1 when placing your order.
    • This allows for the grommet drop off the top of the curtain.

Measuring Pillows

Watch our quick tutorial to get you started:

  • Measure each side for size; diagonal measurements are inaccurate.
  • Lay pillow flat and pull one side taught.
  • Measure from corner to corner on that side. Repeat if pillow is not square.
  • Round up to the nearest whole inch.
  • Pillows lose fullness over time; consider going up in size.
  • Standard sizes: 16×16, 18×18, 20×20, 22×22, 24×24, 12×20, 12×24.
  • If using an existing insert, order a pillow cover about 1 inch smaller for ample fill.

Odd-Shaped Furniture

Due to complexity, gather materials and contact our customer service team.

  • For curves or angles, provide a paper pattern or template (newspaper or wrapping paper works well).
  • Photo of the furniture or original cushion is helpful.
  • Curved backs and cutouts require additional time and templating fees.
  • It may be necessary to ship the existing cover for templating.
